Thanks! This was concise and worked right off the bat for me (note that Postgres is now at 8.3 – just update the number and everything will work fine)

sorry, a little confused here.
these lines:

$ psql -d mytestdb -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.1-postgis/lwpostgis.sql
$ psql -d mytestdb -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.1-postgis/spatial_ref_sys.sql

are ok? or should they be:

$ psql -d geodb -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.1-postgis/lwpostgis.sql
$ psql -d geodb -f /usr/share/postgresql-8.1-postgis/spatial_ref_sys.sql

as for the example to work…?

Your post was quite a help, but i’m still confused about that, dunno if a must run those sql’s on my db or on some other geo-stuff db.
